The Congressional Black Associates Executive Board Kicks-Off its 40-Year Anniversary with Bold Changes, Introductory Events, Community Service

WASHINGTON, DC - This month, the newly-elected Executive Board (E-Board) of the Congressional Black Associates (CBA) began marking 40 years of enhancing the professional, social and economic capabilities of Black staffers on Capitol Hill. To kick off 2020, the CBA had its first general body meeting, community service events and was hosted by the Electronic Software Association (ESA) for a welcome reception.

“In CBA’s 40th year, it’s amazing to see so much enthusiasm and energy from the members and supporters.” CBA President, Didier Barjon said. “This E-Board is dedicated to ensuring we advance the professional and social network of black staffers by providing enriching opportunities through our programming while giving back to the greater community.”

General Body Meeting #1

The first General Body Meeting of 2020 received nearly eighty attendees. The E- Board laid out its vision for the year, which includes launching a mentorship program with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, hosting our popular social networking events, and investing in our members’ professional development. CBA will also continue helping its members find career opportunities through the resume bank and job board.

Community Service: Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend

Continuing their dedication to service, Kayla Primes, the CBA Community Service Chair, organized the general body for two community service events in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The first event mobilized over 400 participants who helped pack lunches for the homeless in the area. The second event invited members to join a peace march, celebrating the tradition of solidarity the holiday has invoked for years.

Electronic Software Association E-Board Welcome Reception

The CBA E- Board was happy to be formally introduced to nearly 200 members of the general body and supporters by the Entertainment Software Association CEO, Stanley Pierre-Louis. The Entertainment Software Association serves as the voice and advocate for the video game industry.

Look ahead: Black History Month

Leading into Black History Month, E-Board members look forward to defining a significant anniversary modeled by distinguished Black leadership. CBA will partner with the Congressional Tech Staff Association to host FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks, the only African-American on the Commission. Additionally, CBA will host its annual Trailblazers Award Ceremony. Details will be provided for upcoming events by Professional Development Chair Christopher Cox and Social Chair Michael Pauls.
