Angela Rye Remarks During Webinar with the Congressional Black Associates

On Thursday, June 4, the Congressional Black Caucus spoke with Principal and CEO of IMPACT Strategies Angela Rye. Below are brief experts of her remarks during the webinar.

“...Shout out to CBA...you all are what make the difference for young people on the Hill, some who are coming in as interns and just finding their way, and others of us who come in as attorneys - on committees - but still trying to find our way...y’all are there… and I’m super grateful for that…”

“What I’m inspired by right now is the number is the number of young...people are hitting the streets...risking their lives, putting their bodies on the line so say ‘enough is enough’...There are folks in every area...trying to do the right thing.”

“We will have missed an opportunity - I’m telling you CBA -  we will have missed an opportunity if we don’t push it beyond police reform, beyond excessive force, beyond a choke hold, we really need to be looking at the overall choke hold - when you think about… the visual of that officer...with his knee on the neck of of George Floyd, who was literally suffocating...that is oppression to us for generations.

“If you are in a position to create change legislatively, that can force...this..President to sign a bill into law that can get the...feet, the knees, the shins...the elbows, the pressure off of our necks - that’s what we need right now. We need that politically, we need that economically, we that mentally, we need that restoratively and reparatively from a historical standpoint...that’s what’s incumbent upon CBA members to do…”
