WASHINGTON, DC - On Thursday, February 27, 2019, the Congressional Black Associates gathered to honor current and former Members of Congress and congressional staffers during the 13th Annual Trailblazer’s Awards hosted by Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck. For thirteen years, this occasion has celebrated the extraordinary successes of African Americans on Capitol Hill and gives lasting recognition to black staffers who have paved the way for others, through their notable accomplishments.

The highest honor of the night was given to Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08), Chairman of the Democratic Caucus, who received the Chairman Elijah E. Cummings Trailblazer Award, for his achievements that closely reflect the esteem of the late Chairman Cummings.

"What I love about this event is that it highlights the achievements that Members and staffers have made in the United States Congress,” said CBA’s President, Didier Barjon. “This event is unique, and CBA is proud to not only award individuals for their outstanding work but to simultaneously elevate the influence black staffers have in this country.”

The event was heavily attended by Members of Congress and CBA members, past and present. With Black History Month as its backdrop, the ceremony sought to showcase the work black public servants play, day in and day out, to perfect our union and uplift our communities.
