CONGRESSIONAL BLACK ASSOCIATES STATEMENT IN HONOR OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH

WASHINGTON, DC - On the first day of Black History Month, the Congressional Black Associates (CBA) released the following statement:

“This Black History Month, we celebrate our people’s culture, joy, and legacy. For 44 years, the Congressional Black Associates has been a fundamental part of connecting Black professionals and providing needed support as they navigate the ever-changing political landscape.

Founded by Donald Temple in 1980, our mission has been rooted in building upward and on top of the foundation cultivated thus far. We follow the examples of those who came before us and work to lead the charge to make our world more equitable.

As we celebrate our triumphs, we must also acknowledge our collective struggle to fight for peace, justice, and equality. There is so much more work that needs to be done.

In the present day, congressional staffers, in particular, are charged with addressing systemic injustices, environmental racism, LGBTQ+ issues, the gun violence epidemic, economic disparities, and more on a day-to-day basis. We must remember the critical role we play on Capitol Hill. Through it all, we shall prevail.”
